Kamen Rider & Super Sentai 3D – Playstation VR Collection

Time for a return to our 3D encodes from the past for a very particular reason. I recently picked up a Playstation VR and was happy to discover that I could use it for 3D BDs with no glasses, just the headset. Of course, while I have several 3D toku BDs, they lack subs, which doesn’t help much for actually watching them. Enter “Littlstar”, a free media app for PSVR.

 

Using Littlstar, you can load 3D MP4s onto a flash drive and play them back in proper 3D. While some of the features aren’t as robust as Sony’s own internal 3D playback (no head tracking for centering the virtual screen and no virtual surround audio), this opens the door to watching these 3D encodes through another method. Unfortunately, there are a few other limitations, mainly that softsubs are not supported, and neither is 5.1 surround audio. As a result, I’ve gone back to the original BDs and re-encoded all of our 3D releases as hardsubbed MP4s with stereo downmixes. One encode has a slight adjustment to some lyrics but otherwise, all subs are exactly as released on the 3D MKV versions.

 

More information on how to setup a flashdrive for use with Littlstar can be found HERE, but all the encodes are properly named for use with the app. You can rename them, as long as you leave the “_3dff_sbs” portion of the filename as-is. Hopefully, with the ever-expanding user base for the PSVR (especially with the holidays coming up), these encodes will be useful for some of you. Enjoy!

The 3D version of Masked Rider World was shown in 1994 in amusement parks and special events nationwide in Japan. It was screened as a triple feature alongside Super Sentai World and Toei Hero Daishugu, a crossover between Tokusou Robo Janperson and Blue Swat.

 

This encode has been left as a 16:9 encode with the pillarbars intact in order to ensure that side-by-side mode still works when displayed in 3D. As with the 2D version, multiple subs are included using either Masked or Kamen to suit your preferences. DDL Users, you can find this in the Kamen Rider Movies section.

This is the 3D version of the Run All Over The World short film, originally screened in the Coal History Village in Yubari between April 29 and October 31, 1989.

 

This encode has been left as a 16:9 encode with the pillarbars intact in order to ensure that side-by-side mode still works when displayed in 3D. Time for another 3D encode! Since it’s been a while since we released a 3D encode, this is a 1080p side-by-side half-res encode which should be supported by most 3D displays. Pirate Sentai Gokaiger The Movie – The Flying Ghost Ship 3D

While on a morning jog, Gai witnesses the arrival of an enormous ship and is quickly attacked by what looks to be GokaiOh. After Gai and GoZyuJin are defeated, the pirates identify the ship, and Marvelous leads the crew to obtain the God’s Eye, a treasure that will grant one wish to whoever holds it, which the Gokaigers intend to use to obtain the greatest treasure in the universe!

Time for another Super Sentai movie and another 3D release! Since it’s been a while, as a refresher, this is a 1080p half-res encode in side-by-side format, which should be supported by most 3D displays. Two subtitle tracks are included, but the dual stream subs should be what most everyone will need to use. Enjoy!

Tensou Sentai Goseiger – Epic on the Movie 3D

The Goseigers try to help a mysterious woman named Racile save the Earth from Warstar’s surviving members as they attempt to obtain the Horn of Ragnarok, a doomsday weapon that would decimate Earth.

Here’s another movie to join both our small 3D movie collection and equally small Super Sentai release collection, and the first one that belongs to an actual Sentai team! To be honest, I haven’t watched a whole lot of Goseiger outside of the Shinkenger and Gokaiger teamup movies and this, but I enjoyed it well enough not having watched the series itself. According to MFC (whose subs we are using here with a few minor tweaks to suit personal preferences), this movie best works slotted in between Episodes 22 and 23, which is backed up by RangerWiki as well. As with W Forever 3D, this is a 1080p release and there are two sub tracks here, so check out that post if you need more information on the differences and enjoy the movie!

So, here’s a fun bonus release for you if you have a 3D display! Thanks to evanmisha, who provided me with the 3D double feature BD (which also included the 3D Goseiger movie, which I may encode as well), we’ve now got the 3D version of A to Z.

 

Some things to note for this release: Because there are a ton of different 3D encoding options out there, I’ve tried to stick to what seemed to be the most common standards. As such, this is a half-resolution side-by-side encode, and in order to try and retain a little extra detail, I’ve kept it at 1080p rather than 720p like the rest of W. This caused the file size to get somewhat large, but I think it was worth it.

 

I’ve included two subtitle tracks, one “dual stream” that doubles the subs so that they are merged together when displayed, and a “single stream” standard track in case your player renders the subs differently. In most cases, the dual stream subs will be what you want to use. Playback has been tested with MPC-HC’s latest release, so I can’t speak of how it will play back in other players.
