The 1080p version of this movie’s only in 3D?
Yes, because as far as I can tell, the movie was shot with 720p cameras, which would be typical of Toei’s filming methods of that era. The 3D version is in 1080p because it has each eye’s stream compressed into half the space in side-by-side mode. I keep the 3D encodes at 1080p to try and offset the impact of the side-by-side compression.
I think today we see these releases on BD and we want all in 1080p, but we forgot to put us at the time it was made. In the releases that I do on my site and hard to explain to people how it works.
